Josephine Kinlan
Josephine Kinlan is a 15 year-old Asian-American highschool student from New York City, and will be going into her junior year in September of 2020. She attends The Bronx High School of Science, and is a Staff Reporter for ‘The Science Survey’ and a Student Life Section Reporter for ‘The Observatory.’ She has always enjoyed writing and reading, and found a specific interest in reporting current events through journalism. She finds journalism interesting because of the muckraking opportunities, and the constant attempt to unveil the truth. She also believes that in times like these, change needs to be recorded and shared so that important events and moments are not lost to history, as so many have been. Her preference in story subjects are those that surround social and socio-economic issues which bear controversy and impact. Her favorite book is ‘Female of the Species’ by Molly McGiggins. She plays volleyball and baseball for her highschool. Outside of school, she plays beach, concrete, and indoor volleyball for various clubs, and is one of the player-captains of an all-girls baseball organization called Baseball For All. In her spare time, Josephine likes to write poetry and stories, cook, bake, paint, draw, make clothes and jewelry, and exercise. Josephine would like to study either humanities or sports science in college, and wishes to lead an athletic career, followed by a career of writing, as an author and/or a journalist.
